BACK IN HIS ROOM, JASON laid his weary head on the pillow. He ran his hands down his face making contact with the scar. It was a reminder that he was no longer the handsome man he once had been. A man who turned female heads everywhere he went. It was also a reminder that he would never be that man.

When he rescued her from the car he was relieved she was passed out. After the accident, he became self-conscious of his flawed features. The last thing he wanted was for her to stare at him like he was some freak. Her unconscious state had made it easier for him to do what he had to do to save her.

He hadn't given any thought to bursting into the guest room when she and Trooper startled him out of his sound sleep. It hadn't occurred to him until he was there, face to face to with her, that she might be repulsed by his scar and slight limp. Instead of her being disgusted by him, she had gazed at him with open, womanly interest. He had not been prepared for her reaction.

He was stunned when Lezlie, without hesitation, traced the scar as if in awe of the imperfect flesh. His first reaction was to remove her hand. He was thankful he hadn't reacted as such. Her warm touch was a welcome sensation he believed he would never know again. The part of him that was a hundred percent male became aroused. It had taken every ounce of willpower not to bend down and crush his mouth to hers. Forget kissing her, he wanted to make raw passionate love to her.

She didn't know it, but the simple gesture made him feel like a man. Not just any man. But a man that was desirable in the eyes of a beautiful woman.

“Damn her,” he grumbled. She had no right to make him feel this way.
